There is plenty to look ahead to in a week which includes York''s Dante meeting and the first Group 1 for older horses of the British Flat season...

Monday May 9

Brighton, Redcar and Wolverhampton host Monday''s afternoon Flat racing, while it''s Windsor on that front in the evening.

The day''s sole NH fixture takes place in the evening at Towcester, while there is a mixed meeting at Roscommon in Ireland.

Tuesday May 10

Beverley, Warwick , Southwell Yarmouth are the venues for Tuesday''s afternoon Flat action, while there is jumping at Sedgefield in the evening.

Wednesday May 11

York''s Dante meeting kicks off on Wednesday and the two main events are the Group 2 Duke of York Stakes over six furlongs and the Group 3 Musidora Stakes over an extended mile and a quarter, the latter being one of the most traditionally significant Oaks Trials. The day''s other Flat fixture takes place in the evening at Kempton.

Over jumps they go at Fontwell, Perth and Wincanton, while in Ireland there is Flat racing at Naas, where there will be some smart fillies on show in the Group 3 Blue Wind Stakes.

Thursday May 12

Thursday is Dante day at York and this year''s renewal of what is arguably the most significant Derby Trial of them all looks set to be a particularly informative race, with the three at the top of the market for Epsom, Carlton House, World Domination and Seville, all among the acceptors. The day''s other pattern races is the Middleton Stakes for fillies and mares. Elsewhere there is good Flat racing at Salisbury in the afternoon and Newmarket in the evening.

On the NH front there are meetings scheduled for Ludlow, Perth and Folkestone, the last-named hosting its traditional all-hunter card. Over in Ireland they race on the Flat at Gowran Park.

Friday May 13

The Dante meeting concludes on Friday with the Group 2 Yorkshire Cup over a mile and three quarters. There is plenty of other good Flat racing to look forward to including fixtures at Hamilton, Newbury, Newcastle and Newmarket.

There is only one meeting scheduled to take place over jumps, but it promises to be a good one at Aintree.

Saturday May 14

The one-mile Lockinge Stakes, the first Group 1 for older horses of the British season, takes place at Newbury on Saturday and this year''s race promises to be a good one with last year''s top three-year-old miler Canford Cliffs set to make his reappearance. The day''s other Flat racing takes place at Doncaster, Newmarket and Thirsk.

There is also jumping scheduled for Bangor and Uttoxeter.
