Sunday 4th July

There is Group 1 racing in France at Chantilly where a field of eight are set to go to post for the Prix Jean Prat (2.42) over a mile. Runners include Poule d'Essai des Poulains winner Lope de Vega, as well as the second and third from the St James's Palace Stakes Dick Turpin and Hearts of Fire.

Monday 5th July

The Lenebane Stakes (8:00) is a potentially interesting listed event over a mile and a half at Roscommon.

Tuesday 6th July

Pontefract stages the listed Pipalong Stakes (4:00) over a mile for fillies and mares, run in honour of Tim Easterby's very smart sprinter.

Wednesday 7th July

Wednesday is the first day of Newmarket's July Festival, where the highlight is the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes (3:10) over a mile for fillies and mares. The Group 2 Cherry Hinton Stakes (2:35) for juvenile fillies is the pick of the races on a strong supporting card.

Thursday 8th July

There are three Group races on Thursday at Newmarket, with the Group 2 Princess of Wales's Stakes (3:10) over a mile and a half the feature. The two-year-old colts go over six furlong in the Group 2 July Stakes (2:00), where there is also a Group 3 in the shape of the Bahrain Trophy (1:30), run over a mile and five furlongs for three-year-old colts and geldings.

Friday 9th July

At Newmarket the Group 1 July Cup (3:10) will see some of the world's top sprinters strutting their stuff over six furlongs, while the Bunbury Cup (2:35) is the July Festival's top betting handicap. The Group 2 Superlative Stakes (2:00) also takes place over seven furlongs for two-year-old colts.

York also stages the first day of its John Smith's Cup meeting, Friday's highlight is the Group 3 Summer Stakes (2:45), a six-furlong event for fillies and mares.

Saturday 10th July

There is a wealth of quality racing on Saturday, and arguably the most interesting fare is at York where the John Smith's Cup (3:05) will no doubt prove a typically difficult puzzle for punters to solve.

Down at Ascot the Group 3 Summer Mile (3:25) is the showpiece event on a seven-race card.

There are also two listed races at Chester, namely the seven-furlong City Plate (2:15) and the five-furlong City Wall Stakes (3:20).
